Ethical content of medical communication

Abstract

The subject of the study is communication in the field of healthcare and the main features of its functioning. The paper focuses on the moral aspect of information interaction and its normative - value platform. The general research approach is related to the theory of social communication. The author uses a discursive method which allows to present the content and orientation of the communicative actions. A dialogue is interpreted as a specific way of communication functioning in medicine. The results of the study are suggestive of the ethical status of medical communication at different levels of social organization – in doctor- patient relationships, interaction among colleagues in a medical institution and in the society as a whole. The human nature of healthcare assumes its moral dimension involving mutual understanding, trust, consensus and cooperation. The fundamental features of such relationships are empathy, mercy, mutual respect, responsibility, effective assistance, etc. of the participants. The general conclusion of the research is the statement about the dominant nature of moral and humanistic relations in healthcare. Therefore, the entire medical communication should be based on ethical norms and attitudes. This requires moral consolidation of medical workers and citizens, as well as the improvement of medical service quality in compliance with the principles of universal morality.
